Dense ruby/garnet, with an exceptionally intense fragrance of Provencal herbs, black pepper, raspberry fruit, and violets, this is a full-bodied, powerful, and harmonious wine. Subsequent bottlings exhibited considerable anise and rust colors, and significantly less fruit and extract, no doubt having become desiccated by their long sojourn in these cellars.
